“40% More” Campaign House Parties

Hosting a House Party for the Newton Power Choice "40% More Campaign"

House parties are a great way to spread the word about the "40% More Campaign" to your friends and neighbors. Here is what you need to know about hosting a house party.

Picking a Day and Time: MNCCA is currently asking people to sign up for holding a house party between Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, July 1. Weekday parties are usually scheduled at 7:00 PM while weekend parties are usually scheduled for 1:00 PM or 4:00 PM. When you sign up, you can pick whatever day within those two weeks that works best for you

Driving Attendance: Most house parties have 8 to 12 guests, which means you'll need to invite at least 3 times that many people. We recommend inviting people 7 to 10 days before the event using following methods: 1) Personally handing invitations to the people who you will see in the 10 days leading up to the event, 2) Calling your friends who you will not be seeing, 3) Sending an email to your network, and 4) Distributing flyers to your neighbors.

Getting Prepared: All house party hosts are assigned an NCCA volunteer to help you plan and run your event. The volunteer is responsible for getting you all of the handouts, presentation boards and other materials you need for the event. They will also be there the day of the event. If you want to present yourself, the volunteer will help get you get trained and will then be on hand to answer questions or provide whatever other support you need in presenting. Or, you can have the volunteer lead the presentation. It's up to you.

The Day of the Event: Typically, parties last about 90 minutes, with the formal presentation begins 15 or 20 minutes after the scheduled start time. That provides an opportunity for on time arrivals to get to know each other and late arrivals to not miss the beginning of the presentation. The presentation itself is printed on 3' x 2' poster boards so there is no need for a projector, monitor, screen or other equipment. The formal presentation usually lasts for 45 minutes to an hour. There is only 15 minutes of prepared material. However, the presentation is meant to be interactive. The remaining 30 to 45 minutes is typically taken up by questions and discussion.
