Newton Needs to Commit to Becoming Emissions Free
Across the country and around the world, cities are passing resolutions to lower their emissions. Resolutions are how city governments make it clear that fighting climate change is a key priority in setting policy, assigning resources and making decisions.
The Newton City Council currently has a resolution under consideration by the City Council that:
- Sets targets for emissions reduction from all sources including electricity, heating and transportation
- Commits the city to developing a climate action plan
- Requires the Mayor to report on the progress against the plan each year to ensure that their promises are kept
