Measuring Newton's Progress in Eliminating Emissions
Measuring our progress is a critical part of our fight against Global Warming. If we don't measure our emissions and report on it regularly, we won't know how we are doing against our goal.
This is why in the 100% Renewable Newton resolution calls for our Mayor to report on our progress every year.
The last time Newton measured its carbon output in 2013, we were emitting 974,042 tons, 11.1 tons for each of the 87,800 people who lived in the city.
Over the next year, we'll be updating our emissions for 2017 and reporting other measures of our progress - the number of electric cars registered in the city, the number of public electric car charging stations, the share of municipal buildings that are net-zero emissions, and more.
