Summary
Our Coalition recommends that Newton Power Choice sets a high default percent of renewable electricity for the program. We support a default of 40% above the State mandate of 13% for the initial contract (a total of 53% Class 1 renewable energy). This goal is feasible, and is strongly supported by citizens polled in a recent Green Newton survey. We must adopt the international carbon roadmap to reduce global warming by using the ‘carbon law’, of halving emissions every decade. To express our support, and to further our mission of ‘greening our grid’ in Newton, the Coalition drafted a “letter of support” for an ambitious default.
